Operation: Retrieval
A downloadable game for Windows
/// Incoming transmission... ///
Operator, we managed to quarantine an entity in a location close enough to facilitate indirect surveillance using a remote controlled drone. The drone comes with a camera flash as its only tool for visibility. It's the best compromise we thought of; any permanent light source would instantly attract unwanted attention. As it stands, you'll still have to use the flash sparingly. If the entity notices you, the only choice you have is to get as far away as possible. Enter the forbidden zone and extract enough data for us to better understand this anomaly. Good luck.
WARNING: Due to the unknown nature of the entity, collection of data points might tap into local information networks and frequencies. The LTMC advises operators to solely focus on the retrieval of the datapoints and not pay attention to any information they might detect as a side-effect.
/// End transmission ///
Operation: Retrieval is a short atmospheric horror game in which you must balance finding out where you are with the risk of the entity noticing you. Your objective is to find 5 datapoints spread across the map. Each datapoint collected will increase the chance of the entity noticing you...unless you proceed blind!
Operation: Retrieval is a university project I decided to flesh out and release. As such, running the game will require some extra steps due to the engine I'm using. You'll find a file in the .zip archive including instructions on how to run the game, or in the install instructions of the itch page.
The supporter pack contains the .aseprite files I worked with when making the art for the store page, a compilation of all the lore texts that you can find in the game, and the full source code, ready to be used as a Visual Studio Code project! It is completely optional and you're not missing out on anything essential, however, buying it would directly support this, my other, and future projects, besides receiving my endless gratitude as well :D

A simple yet well executed horror game with a compelling lore that extends beyond the gameplay itself.
I thoroughly enjoyed the game's atmosphere, and the portrayal of the entity's threat was really nice. Each data point consists of intriguing chat logs from people living in this world plagued by unexplained anomalies. These are not random message logs only serving decorative purposes,but rather human insights into paranormal encounters.
It reminded me of chat logs from japanese media like Durarara, which offer a glimpse into people's thoughts and experiences.
